Residential speed limit is changing April 1st

20 MPH is the new speed limit on Portland’s
residential streets

Starting April 1, 2018, the new 20 MPH speed limit will take effect. Sign installations and replacements began on Tuesday and will be in progress over the next month and beyond.

The new 20 MPH speed limit is part of Portland’s Vision Zero work to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries. Slower driving speeds help prevent crashes and, when crashes occur, reduce the harm that results.

PBOT will double the number of residential speed limit signs, installing approximately 2,000 across the city. At some locations, existing signs will be relocated to maximize their effectiveness.

Help spread the word to neighbors and families traveling to school:

FREE corrugated plastic yard signs (see image) reminding people driving that “20 is Plenty” will be available for community members to display in their yard. The locations of pick-up sites, dates, and times are posted HERE.
