Bird News, Eyes That Kiss in the Corners + Resource Round-Up 5/27

Counselor Corner  /  News & Events Oregon Junco standing on classroom floor, perched on windowsill

This week, one of the juncos that lives in the courtyard followed some students into the building and decided to check out second grade. Everyone stayed so calm! Once we opened the windows and gave him some space, he soon hopped out again. Never a dull moment at Lincoln Park 😉

This week’s story is Eyes That Kiss in the Corners, by Joanna Ho and Dung Ho. I’m always on the lookout for books that are “windows and mirrors.” Just like you can see yourself in the mirror, a book that is a mirror allows the reader to see themselves in the storyline or characters, while a book can be a window when it lets the reader see into another’s experiences. A great book, like this one, does both! I loved looking through the window to the narrator’s family (the illustrations are beautiful!) and found my own life peeking out at me around a teapot. What part of yourself do you see reflected in your loved ones?
