Election Day, Courage Tool,’Ohana Means Family + Resource Round-Up 5/14

Counselor Corner  /  News & Events car dropping ballot into Multnomah County Ballot Box

Election Day is May 18th – have you voted? It is too late to mail your ballot, but you can still drop it at one of the county’s Ballot Drop Sites until 8 pm on Tuesday – the closest one to Lincoln Park is the Midland Library. There are some David Douglas School Board seats on the ballot – your vote will help shape the future of our school!

Our final 🧰Toolbox🧰 tool is the 🔦Courage Tool🔦 – sometimes you have to be brave to use your tools and do the right thing. Whether it is standing up to injustice, saying “I’m sorry,” or speaking your truth, you have the strength and courage inside of you to shine some light in the darkness. Be Brave!

This week’s story is ‘Ohana Means Family by Ilima Loomis and Kenard Pak. Set in Hawai’i, this lovely book takes the rhythms of a familiar chant and turns them into a meditation on farming, tradition, land and community, bound together in ‘ohana. Pak’s illustrations are the icing on the cake – I can almost feel the wind moving through the valley fold. If you’re interested, here are some activity ideas from the author. Who is your ‘ohana?
