This week’s Conflict Resolution Strategy is Rock, Paper, Scissors (roshambo).
This strategy works best to solve a conflict when two people want the same thing, like a spot in line, the “good eraser” or to pick a game. When using Rock, Paper, Scissors to resolve a conflict, problem-solvers chant “Rock, Paper, Scissors” and then show the hand sign for “rock” (fist), “paper” (flat hand), or “scissors (two fingers). Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, and paper beats rock.
Rock, Paper, Scissors is an excellent tool to have in your pocket, but not always the best to use – like if you’re feeling mad or hurt. Next week we’ll talk about a different strategy you could use in that situation.
